I am excited to share with our community the latest Empowerment project update, in partnership with Enliven Mama Africa to alleviate poverty for single mothers in Ghana.
In Ghana, many young women find themselves as single parents due to limited education and access to reproductive healthcare. They are often seen as the bottom of the food chain and are at risk of sexual violence and trafficking. As a result, they have no way to support their families, leading to malnutrition, high mortality rates in children, no opportunity for education, and severe economic hardship.
To help these women and their families, Sumillion Limited has partnered with Enliven Mama Africa to provide skills training and materials to learn a trade. The program includes training on how to run an independent business and provides sewing machines and materials after completion of the training. We will also financially support the women and families during the training program, ensuring that the children have food to eat and can attend school.
We have already provided this service to two villages, but there are eight more villages that we aim to support, with this number growing yearly. Our goal is to break the cycle of poverty and extreme economic hardship, limit malnutrition and mortality, and improve the community. By providing these women with the skills to become financially secure, they will be able to fight for their rights to health, nutrition, and speech.
