ITAD (IT Asset Disposition) is the process of discarding old equipment in a responsible manner. Usually, there are some components that are broken and therefore can be remanufactured so the majority working components are not wasted.
Through Sumillion, To Live in H.O.P.E. received a large donation of laptops that had been discarded by a valued customer. Old but in working condition, these laptops were transported to schools across rural Ghana in order to aid their learning.
Educational resources are expensive and out-of-reach for many rural schools. As the majority of students do not make it to secondary education, young people and families are pushed into severe poverty resulting in hunger, malnutrition, ill health, child labour and prostitution, and high child mortality, to name a few.
The children have been making good use of the laptops, discovering new sources of information and learning programmes. We hope to break this cycle of poverty by giving children the opportunity to progress in their educational career.
